Michael Patrick Smith

Michael has been a resident of Hawaiʻi for 30 years. He has had an interest in art his whole life and has been a full time wood artist for the last decade. He began in woodturning, and over the last several years felt the need for a more original form of expression, sculpture. This change inspired him to convey his art without limitations. “Originality and creativity perpetuate each other. It’s extremely important for me to create work, which has a strong personal meaning, with only the boundary of the medium I use; this gives me a satisfying feeling.” Michael gets his inspiration from the world around him, especially the intricacies of nature. He is very appreciative to have found wood with all its warmth and innate beauty as the means to conceive and create his Art.
